The second EAF event was implemented in the Mandoulides School in the Greek city of Thessaloniki from 27 to 30 September 2023. It brought together a group of enthusiastic young people, youth educators, and media and policy activists and enabled them to discuss and explore how fake news are created and shared in the digital world. Through a series of engaging workshops and living libraries, they also worked on raising media literacy and boosting critical thinking skills that can help young people detect, debunk, and deconstruct fake news. As during the previous EAF event, fake news within 4 thematic units were addressed: 1.) Climate Cha(lle)nge, 2.) Fundamental rights in the time of COVID-19, 3.) Migration – the hometown of disinformation, and 4.) Euroscepticism as a democratic barrier.
The participants have developed a set of fun, engaging, and interactive Escape Game Challenges, that represent the main product of this EAF event. The goal of these Challenges is to showcase the importance of critical thinking in a youth-friendly and attractive manner. The Challenges were presented to the public on the 3rd of November 2023 and they enabled large numbers of people and their fellow peers to engage in a lively discussion about the impact of disinformation and how to overcome it.
