On Monday, May 12, 2025, more than 70 students from four high school of the Municipality of Pavlos Melas participated in an innovative educational simulation, taking on the role of City Councilors for a day. The activity, organized by the organization MoveIt in collaboration with the Municipality of Pavlos Melas, with the support of Mandoulides Schools and the participation of the 1st and 3rd Junior High Schools of Stavroupoli, the 3rd Junior High School of Polichni, and the 2nd Junior High School of Efkarpia, offered students the opportunity to experience first-hand the workings of local government and actively engage in decision-making processes.
Throughout the day, students worked together, shared opinions, and developed proposals on key issues that concern local communities, such as the effective management of stray animals — emphasizing sterilization, the creation of shelters, and public awareness campaigns; the need for sustainable mobility — focusing on improving accessibility, enhancing pedestrian safety, and promoting cycling; and the utilization of public municipal spaces — aiming to create areas for recreation and social interaction for all citizens.
The initiative served as a vibrant example of how experiential learning can empower young people and foster democratic awareness, preparing them for active and responsible participation in civic and political life.
